What Does It Mean to Live Off Grid?
I am starting to hear more and more people talk about how they live off grid. For a while I just didnt’ understand what that meant, but as my electric bills went up I started looking into it. I thought I’d share some of what I have learned about what it means to live off grid.
Live Off Grid ~ What does it mean?
To live off grid simply means that you are no longer taking electricity from the electricity company. Whether it’s a big conglomerate or your local electric coop. To go off grids means you are not taking power from an external source. You are creating all of your own power.
This includes powering your house, all your appliances as well as your hot water. Being completely off grid means you buy absolutely no power.
Do I Have to Go Completely Off Grid?
Absolutely NOT! There is tons of middle ground here. You can supply and save some of your own electricity, and still pull some power from the grid for times when you need more or your personal resources are not producing enough.
This is great news for the person just looking into how to live off grid. Because it means you can start small, set up one or two resources for you to produce your own power, and still pull power from the grid when you need it.
What Sources of Energy Can I Use to Lower My Electric Bills?
Most people find creating a source of solar energy and wind energy are the easiest ways to create residential power. You may be thinking that must be impossible or expensive, but these days that is far from the truth. You can easily begin to take you and your family off grid, whether you decide to build solar panels, or build a wind power turbine.
There are now step by step guides to help you do both with minimal investment. If you are thinking about creating your own power you finding resources that can help you do it yourself or lead you to affordable alternatives is the best way to go.
